NALETA Recruit Sanchez honored

2017 Oct 16

Navajo County Sheriff K.C. Clark presents a Meritorious Service Award to NPC's Northeastern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy (NALETA) Recruit Krystopher Sanchez for his actions at the scene of a fatal train-vehicle accident at the S.R. 77 crossing in Holbrook on Sunday, August 20. Sanchez, who grew up in Holbrook, was on his way to an academy study session when he saw a northbound truck crash through the lowered crossing guard arm right in front of a westbound train. Sanchez administered first aid to the victim, later identified as Brad Turley, 50, also of Holbrook, who had been ejected from his broadsided vehicle, until paramedics arrived. He then assisted responding officers at the scene and provided vital witness information about the accident. Clark commended Sanchez for his "exemplary service and contribution to the police profession" and said he was looking forward to Sanchez completing the academy and becoming a full-time deputy.
