Alex Merrill competes in 2016 SkillsUSA regionals

Alex Merrill of Snowflake was one of 27 Northland Pioneer College/Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology (NAVIT) Cosmetology students to compete in the 2016 regionals for SkillsUSA at the NPC Cosmetology Center on the Show Low White Mountain Campus.

Students from all three NPC Cosmetology training centers in Show Low, Winslow and St. Johns competed in the regional event. The top three winners in the high school and postsecondary divisions will compete in the Arizona SkillsUSA competition, March 29 & 30 in Phoenix, Ariz. Winners at the state level will compete at the National Leadership & Skills Conference in Louisville, Ky. on June 20-25, 2016. Medalist in the high school division were:

  • Gold - Christa Montez from Blue Ridge High School, who received a $500 tuition scholarship from NPC and prizes totally over $1,200.
  • Silver - Matthew Begay from Winslow High School
  • Bronze - Chanel Maldonado from Snowflake High School

Winners in the postsecondary division were:

  • Gold - Savannah Martin, a graduate of Show Low High School
  • Silver - Belinda Colelay
  • Bronze - Alex Merrill, a graduate of Snowflake High School

Kristina Wyman received prizes for having the best resume.
